PREVIEW: MATCH 3 – Royal Roma v Royal Parma – European Cricket Series Rome

Tune in to the live action Monday from 1:15pm CET * 12:15pm UK/GMT * 5:45pm IST from the Roma Spinaceto ground in Rome, Italy.

Team Preview for Royal Roma

Royal Roma CC are an emerging club in Roman cricket. They went winless in the T20 competition this year but got close to a win on several occasions – on others the weather intervened and prevented them getting the results required to qualify for the quarter finals. They are an aggressive batting unit who will enjoy the freedom that T10 cricket allows. This match is the second of back-to-back games, following on from their game against Padova in Match 2.

Captain: Rajwinder Singh

Main Wicketkeeper: Mubarak Hossain

Key Players:

Mubarak Hossain will be one of the batting stars of the series in my opinion. He passed 50 ten times in 2020 and went on to make centuries on two of those occasions. Opposition bowlers will want to see the back of this opening batsman early in the innings otherwise ten overs will seem a long time!

Rajwinder Singh is the club captain and one of the spiritual leaders at Royal Roma. He is the club’s all-time leading wicket-taker and has a big role to play if they are to get results on the board this week in Rome. In addition to his bowling responsibilities, he is likely to bat in the number three position.

Shoaib Awan is “THE KING OF SIXES”. He scores a higher proportion of his runs in maximos than any other batsmen so he will want to put his stamp on his first ever European Cricket Series.

Umar Shahzad will take the new ball. He is a left arm paceman who possesses the ability to swing the ball into the right-hander. He took a hat trick in the first over of a match in the domestic competition this year so would like to reproduce that kind of wizardly in the ECS!

Team Preview for Royal Parma

Royal Parma CC were 3-5 in T20s this year but are a good young side who had to face difficult opponents in one of the strongest groups in that competition. They follow on from a tough opening match against Kingsgrove Milan with this clash against Royal Roma.

Captain: Sukhpal Singh

Main Wicketkeeper: Harkamal Singh

Key Players:

Sukhpal Singh will lead the side. He will bat number three in this format but is very comfortable with ball in hand. He is the club’s all-time leading bowler with 132 wickets in his career for Royal Parma.

Harkamal Singh can be explosive with the bat. He blasted a century off only 31 balls last season, so if he can reproduce some of that form in the ECS, Royal Parma will be a force. He will likely bat at number four and has the potential to finish off the innings in style.

Mehboob Ahmed is one of the team’s top all-rounders. He will bowl leg spin and I think the change of pace will be very effective in this competition if he doesn’t bowl too many bad balls.

Mehmoor Javed can open the batting and is coming off a very good season last year, with over 500 runs for the Royal Parma side. He will look to get the team off to a fast start in the powerplay.

Mr Maximo’s tip: ROYAL PARMA

I believe this will be a very close contest, with both sides desperate to get one up on the other as the games between these sides could have a large bearing on who will progress from Group A. I believe the young guns from Royal Parma have what it takes to pull off a victory in this right royal battle!
