PREVIEW: MATCH 21 – Falco v Joves Units – European Cricket Series Barcelona

Tune in to the live action Monday from 9am CEST * 8am UK * 7am GMT * 12:30pm IST from the Montjuïc ground in Barcelona, Spain.

Team Preview for Falco

Falco CC had a very good season last year in T20 cricket, finishing in the top five of 23 teams in the Liga Catalana. Their T10 form was dismal leading into this tournament but they have certainly started moving in the right direction, winning their first two matches in the European Cricket Series. They dismantled Hira Sabadell in their opening encounter last Tuesday, bowling them out for only 43 after posting 134 off their 10 overs. Their other match was a much closer contest against Men in Blue on Thursday evening, winning 88 to 84.

Captain: Kamran Raja

Main Wicketkeeper: Awais Ahmed

Key Players:

Awais Ahmed is the current Spanish national team wicketkeeper and opening batsman with a T20 international century to his name. He has made a very strong start to the tournament including 79 in their first match which was the highest individual score of the first week in Barcelona. Stamping his authority on the tournament, he scored those runs off only 32 balls, hitting 7 maximos along the way so we have seen how destructive he can be.

Kamran Raja will lead the side. He opened the batting in Falco’s first match before dropping himself down the order the next time they played. He is a known six-hitter and wicket-taker so I feel he will have an impact in this match.

Tanveer Iqbal is a former captain of the Spanish national side. He has been effective with the new ball, taking three wickets so far in the series.

Team Preview for Joves Units

Joves Units CC played their first two games back to back last Tuesday, beating Hira Sabadell by a single run before going down to Catalunya CC in the very next match. With back to back games again on Monday morning, it will be critically important for them to get some wins if they want to have any chance of being in contention for one of the coveted semi-final spots.

Captain: Babar Basharat

Main Wicketkeeper: Abdul Rehman Ullah

Key Players:

Abdul Rehman Ullah is a tidy wicketkeeper-batsman who has been in fine form this season. He started well with 27 off 14 balls in the first game opening the batting for Joves Units. If they are to be competitive in this match, he will have to do some of the heavy lifting at the top of the order.

Taqqi ul Mazhar is a useful all-rounder who has made an impressive start to the ECS, top scoring for his side in both games. He will chip in with his penetrative bowling as the tournament progresses.

Mohammad Tanzeer Ur Rehman took 2 for 5 off his only over against Hira Sabadell before being very expensive in his next match, going for 41 off his two overs. He will hope to get it right on this critically important morning for Joves Units.

Mr Maximo’s tip: FALCO

Falco have looked good in their first two victories, even taking the opportunity to rotate some different players through the key positions to expose more players to pressure situations. Joves Units have had their moments and will be competitive, but ultimately I would expect Falco to prevail in the first match of the second week action and make it three for three in the European Cricket Series Barcelona. Tune in for all the fast-paced T10 action on the European Cricket Network, there’s plenty of entertainment coming your way with four matches every day!
