Cricket Scotland the brave new ECL addition

The European Cricket League (ECL) is proud to announce that Cricket Scotland has agreed a landmark partnership ensuring that Scotland’s champion club will now be invited to the ECL - the Champions League of European cricket.

“I am very excited to have Cricket Scotland join the European Cricket League for season 2020 and beyond,” said Daniel Weston, Founder of the European Cricket League.

“I strongly believe that by inviting the Champion club from Scotland to compete in the ECL, it will continue to elevate the sport at domestic level and encourage more clubs, teams, administrators, fans and children to the sport to further grow the country’s cricketing community.”

“From now on, every club in Scotland has a pathway to compete to become the “Kings of European cricket.”

Gus Mackay, CEO of Cricket Scotland, said: “We are delighted to announce this partnership which gives our clubs the opportunity to compete with other clubs in Europe.

“The European Cricket League has developed a great reputation and we are pleased to give our clubs in Scotland the opportunity to showcase their skills and demonstrate the growth of cricket in Scotland.”

The addition of Cricket Scotland to the ECL family follows closely on the back of Sweden, Norway, Belgium and Finland in recent weeks, following the founding eight federations namely: The Netherlands, France, Germany, Russia, Romania, Denmark, Italy and Spain.

The second-staging of the tournament - ECL20 - promises to be even bigger and better. Due to huge interest and demand for the competition, ECL20 will double its number of champion teams to 16 - spread over eight days of exciting fast-paced T10 action. Naturally, the reigning “Kings of Europe”, V.O.C. Rotterdam will automatically return to defend their majestic trophy between May 31 and June 7, 2020 at La Manga Club in Spain.
