The Costa Del Cricket Club facility, affectionately called the Cartama Oval, is just a 15 minutes drive from the Malaga Airport and 20 minutes from Malaga city centre. The first game here was held in March 1985 when a touring team from East Anglia wanted to play some pre-season games in warmer climates. Due to the fabulous Mediterranean climate, cricket can be played all year-round here. It has two grass cricket pitches, that were earlier turf nurseries, to play the matches.
The success of the ground has been inspired by English-born owner, David Cooper of Sports World Spain and resident of Cartama for 35 years.
“The Dream11 European Cricket Championship is an exciting, new initiative, and we are genuinely honoured to stage the inaugural tournament,” said Cooper.
“We cannot wait to welcome fans and holidaymakers to the Cartama Oval. Partnering with this new competition provides us with an opportunity to showcase our ground and facilities to a truly global audience.
“It has always been my dream to make Cartama the premier cricket facility in Spain and it has been an exciting journey to create such an exceptional venue for hosting international cricket.”
